The EU initiative Destination Earth (DestinE) is organising its third user exchange meeting on October 15-16, 2024, in Darmstadt, Germany. This event, hosted by EUMETSAT, will be an in-person gathering with options for online participation. Destination Earth, implemented by EUMETSAT, ECMWF, and ESA, is developing a high-precision digital model of Earth to monitor, simulate, and predict environmental changes and human impacts, supporting sustainable development measures. The meeting brings together current and prospective users of DestinE, system developers, and stakeholders to share information, showcase applications, and gather feedback on the newly launched initial version of the DestinE system.
3rd Destination Earth User eXchange
The Third Destination Earth User Exchange Meeting is a crucial platform for strengthening the DestinE user community and advancing the project's goals. It provides an opportunity for stakeholders to learn about the status of the DestinE system and its use cases, view demonstrations of applications, and contribute to the system's future development. The event facilitates knowledge sharing, collaboration, and feedback collection on usability and future needs. It aims to foster dialogue between stakeholders and potential partners, attract interested parties, and explore ways to enhance interaction and engagement with the DestinE system. This meeting is particularly significant as it follows the recent launch of the initial version of the DestinE system, marking a major milestone in the project's development.
BioDT's Role at the Event
BioDT project will have a notable presence at the Third Destination Earth User Exchange Meeting. Four representatives from the project will be attending: Jesse Harrison (CSC), Tero Aalto (CSC), Dirk Pleiter (KTH), and Gabriela Zuquim (CSC), with the latter participating online.
BioDT will make two significant contributions to the event. Firstly, Dirk Pleiter from KTH will be contributing to the session on interoperability, highlighting the project's work on integrating biodiversity data and models with other Earth system components. This presentation will likely address the challenges and opportunities in making digital twin systems interoperable, a crucial aspect for the success of both BioDT and DestinE.
Secondly, Tero Aalto from CSC will participate in the poster session, presenting the BioDT project's latest developments, methodologies, or findings. This poster presentation offers an excellent opportunity for attendees to engage directly with BioDT's work, ask questions, and explore potential collaborations. The participation of BioDT in this event underscores the project's commitment to engaging with the broader Earth system modelling community and its role in advancing the integration of biodiversity considerations into comprehensive Earth system digital twins. It also provides a platform for BioDT to showcase its progress, gather feedback from peers, and explore synergies with other initiatives within the DestinE ecosystem.
