Welcome to the Events Issue!

BioDT has had a busy few months!

Our researchers have been working on the Biodiversity Digital Twin prototype and this has led us to consider and deeply reflect on our FAIR approach to data. As a result we have organised several webinars and are organising even more as you will read below.

This is the third issue of our newsletter, and is packed full of information on upcoming events. Make sure you join our next webinar on the 4th of April!

UPCOMING WEBINAR - Digital Earth Twins to build resilience to climate change

Register now to join us, DestinE & Digital Earth Twins for a joint webinar on the 4th of April 2023 to discuss opportunities, challenges and future trends in virtual twins!

The webinar "Digital Earth Twins to build resilience to climate change" aims to showcase best practices, challenges and emerging patterns in developing digital twins. The speakers are experts and developers in the field and will highlight the main aspects to be taken into account when developing highly-complex technology systems, such as BioDT, Destination Earth and ClimateDT.

The event includes also an interactive session where the participants can get in contact with the speakers and ask direct questions.

Registration for the webinar is mandatory, but free at the following link.

BioDT at the EuroHPC Summit 2023

The EuroHPC Summit is an annual event gathering key European HPC stakeholders from providers, to scientific and industrial users, to policy makers.

The Summit is an important moment to showcase the latest achievements and opportunities in the European supercomputing ecosystem, but also to discuss and reflect on the current and future challenges in HPC. The event provides also a great opportunity for attendees to network and connect with the European HPC community.

BioDT partners are going to showcase the project at the EuroHPC Summit through:

  • a panel discussion in the session "Paving the path for Digital Twins on HPC" on 21 March 2023 at 16:30, featuring BioDT partners Dirk Pleiter (KTH), Thomas Geenen (ECMWF) and Marcella Orwick Rydmark (UiO), also discussing the role played by BioDT in the digital twin landscape;
  • a poster presentation where it is possible to meet and discover the evolution of the digital twin prototype for biodiversity research with our partners Elena Lazovik and Tomáš Karásek (IT4I) and Dirk Pleiter (KTH).

BioDT at ISC 2023: the event for High Performance Computing, Machine Learning, Data Analytics and Quantum Computing

ISC High Performance 2023 is a highly-anticipated annual event that provides a valuable opportunity for public and industry users to connect with technology developers.

BioDT partners are going to showcase the BIoDT project at the ISC 2023 through a poster presentation where it is possible to meet and discover the evolution of the digital twin prototype for biodiversity research with our partners from IT4I.

BioDT Webinars on FAIR Digital Twins

In January and February BioDT organised two webinars focused on how best to understand and apply FAIR data principles to the Biodiversity Digital Twin's design, implementation, and maintenance.

To facilitate discussions around this topic, the BioDT consortium organised a series of online webinars to stimulate conversations around FAIR with a focus on BioDT and the digital twinning paradigm. Experts and practitioners that deal with different aspects of FAIR implementation and digital twins are invited to join to stimulate discussions that help understand FAIR implementation in a more actionable way. The first two of these have taken place but it is not too late to join the conversation. Watch the recordings below to join the conversation.

The first session is taking place on 26 January at 14:00 (CET) and provided a conceptual overview of FAIR principles applicable on digital twinning.

The second session took place on 13 February at 16:00 (CET) and provided an overview of FAIR tools applicable to digital twinning.
