Online

This May 22nd at 10 AM (CEST), the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB), also known as World Biodiversity Day, join us for a free, one-hour webinar exploring the BioDT prototype Digital Twin (pDT) for Pollinators.

The IDB is a global reminder of the importance of biodiversity for our planet's health. This year's theme "Be part of the Plan" calls on all stakeholders to take action and support the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, also known as the "The Biodiversity Plan". This plan outlines a roadmap for reversing biodiversity loss and creating a sustainable future for all.

Honey bees in crisis: The BioDT pDT steps in

The BioDT Pollinator pDT directly addresses the theme "Be Part of the Plan" by offering a powerful tool for understanding and improving the well-being of pollinators, particularly honey bees. Honey bees are essential for a healthy planet, but they face significant threats like habitat loss, diseases, and food scarcity.

The BioDT Pollinator pDT is a digital tool designed to assess the quality of landscapes for honey bees. This innovative prototype combines real-world data with advanced simulation techniques to provide actionable insights for conservation efforts.

The BioDT Pollinator pDT is built upon a robust technical foundation. Customised scripts meticulously translate real-world data (like land use maps and weather patterns) into a format that can be readily understood by the established BEEHAVE honey bee model. This model, originally developed in NetLogo, allows researchers to simulate honey bee behavior and performance under various conditions.

The BioDT project has equipped the pDT to process information spanning vast geographical areas, addressing the challenge of handling massive datasets. This means the honeybee survival prototype can potentially be used to analyse data across entire countries. Furthermore, by leveraging containerisation, the model can be effortlessly run on different supercomputers with minimal adjustments, ensuring efficient and timely results for large-scale simulations.

Join the webinar to learn more and most importantly, grab the opportunity to access the prototype Digital Twin.
