The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) Digital Gathering 2024 (#DG24) will be held at The University of Manchester on 11-12 September 2024. This event brings together the NERC research community to showcase how digital technologies are increasingly important in environmental research.

The gathering will highlight results from NERC-funded research, ongoing work of the Environmental Data Service (EDS), and NERC's Data Centres. Attendees can expect to hear from leaders in digital research from both academia and industry, including speakers from Microsoft, Nvidia, and Esri.

For the BioDT community, a key highlight of the event will be a presentation by Simon Rolph from the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH) on Thursday, 12th September. His talk, "Applying the Digital Twin Concept to Ecological Reality: Challenges and Lessons Learned," will share insights from the BioDT (Biodiversity Digital Twin) project.

The event is free for all registered participants and offers a chance to learn about the latest digital approaches in environmental science, network with peers, and explore potential collaborations. The program will likely include keynote speeches, workshops, demonstrations of new digital tools, poster sessions, and panel discussions on the future of digital technologies in environmental research.

This gathering is an important opportunity for researchers, data scientists, and environmental professionals to stay up-to-date with recent developments and contribute to advancing digital approaches in environmental science.
